| Prostaglandin F-2 alpha (PGF(2 alpha)) is the primary luteolysin in the cow, and luteal endothelin-1 (ET-1) interacts with PGF(2 alpha) during the process of luteolysis. In contrast, a developing corpus luteum (CL) is refractory to exogenous administration of PGF(2 alpha). Thus, the present study was aimed to investigate the functional relationship between ET-1 and PGF(2 alpha) in the mid-CL (PGF(2 alpha)-sensitive) and early-CL (PGF(2 alpha)-refractory). | After intercourse/insemination, large numbers of sperm are deposited in the female reproductive tract (FRT), triggering a massive recruitment of neutrophils (PMNs) into the FRT, possibly to eliminate excessive sperm via phagocytosis. Some bovine oviductal fluid components (BOFCs) have been shown to regulate in vitro sperm phagocytosis (spermophagy) by PMNs. The modeling approach-based logistic regression (LR) and autoregressive logistic regression (ALR) can be used to predict the behavior of complex biological systems. | The present study aimed to examine the possibility that bovine somatotropin (BST) treatment after artificial insemination (AI) may improve the fertility by the stimulation of corpus luteum (CL) function in seasonally anestrous ewes. | Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a luteolytic mediator in the bovine corpus luteum (CL), and its action appears to be via endothelin type A receptor (ETR-A). Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine the effect of ETR-A antagonist on PGF(2)alpha-induced luteolysis in the cow. | Recent studies suggest that IGF-I is a crucial regulatory factor in follicular growth during early post-partum period. The aim of the present study was to determine in detail the changing profiles of metabolic and reproductive hormones in relation to ovulation of the dominant follicle (DF) of the first follicular wave post-partum in high-producing dairy cows. Plasma concentrations of related hormones in 22 multiparous Holstein cows were measured from 4 weeks pre-partum to 3 weeks post-partum, and the development of DF was observed with colour Doppler ultrasound. | The activity of α3-D-mannoside-β-1,2-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase I (GnT I; EC 2.4.1.101), which catalyzes the first step in the conversion of oligomannose to complex or hybrid N-glycans of glycoproteins, was detected in bovine follicular fluid (bFF). The GnT I activity in bFF had a pH optimum of 5.8 and an absolute requirement for either Co2+, Mn2+, or Mg2+, the activity being stimulated by these cations in the above order.
